Orofacial care melbourne
Your Melbourne dentist focusing on orofacial care
When you experience facial and mouth pain, you want a dentist to help you relieve it. Visiting our Melbourne CBD dental clinic is a good choice for managing your orofacial pain, as we have in-depth experience treating patients with oral and maxillofacial conditions.
Our dentists care, and take the time to investigate what’s happening. Then, we make a detailed evaluation of your symptoms to adequately diagnose your orofacial condition.
As a first approach, we promote muscle-relaxing techniques with a more manual focus. Then, as needed, our dentists can recommend intervention using other means, including splints and injectable treatment.
During every appointment to help reduce your orofacial pain, we use your input and experience. Because of our patient-centred care philosophy, we create a personalised dental treatment plan.

More about our Orofacial Care services
TMJ Dysfunction (TMD)
Your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is where your lower jawbone and skull meet. It gets a lot of use with speech, eating, yawning and other everyday functions.
However, sometimes the joint doesn’t work as it should. When this dysfunction occurs, you can experience clicking noises when chewing or yawning, pain around the joint, reduced jaw movement and sleeping problems.
With our experience, we can assess your situation and provide you with customised treatment options, from the convenience of our Melbourne dental practice.
Bruxism (Tooth Grinding)
Tooth grinding (also known as bruxism) is a common orofacial problem we see at our Melbourne CBD dental surgery. Bruxism mainly occurs during sleep, and involves involuntary clenching and grinding of your teeth.
Bruxism can cause your tooth enamel to wear down, as well as causing headaches and pain in the face or neck.
Over time, the tooth wear can become severe enough to warrant restorative procedures like crowns or veneers.
Please speak to us to find out how we can help you with your teeth grinding. We may even recommend an occlusal splint (night splint).
Sleep Apnoea (Snoring)
If you’ve been sleepy during waking hours, or if you’ve experienced snoring, damaged teeth or jaw pain, you could have a problem with your sleep.
Please make an appointment with us to rule out other orofacial conditions, such as bruxism or TMD. We’ll assess your symptoms and determine if you have sleep apnoea (sometimes spelt as sleep apnea), where the upper airway can be obstructed during sleep.
At our Melbourne dental practice, we can provide dental appliance solutions for mild and moderate cases, and discuss treatment options for more severe cases.
Occlusal Splints
Sometimes called night guards, occlusal splints protect your teeth in cases of TMD and bruxism.
We will assess your suitability for an occlusal splint when you visit our dental surgery, and take impressions of your teeth. We’ll create a personalised and removable night guard.
Wearing the splint at night times prevents grinding, and as such it saves the erosion of your tooth surface. The splint also helps to relax jaw muscles, in cases of people with TMJ dysfunction.
